Road graders also referred to as motor graders, are commonly used in road construction projects. These grader machines are designed with a long blade in their structure, and the blade runs diagonally to the body of the machine. The function of the blade is to level the ground and disperse the aggregates and materials on the ground evenly to create a flat surface. Grader machines are referred to as motor graders because they are run by an engine, contrary to the previous models that were drawn by animals like horses. Types of road graders

2. The 15-ton road grader

Bigger than the 11-ton road grader, this is the perfect example of a road grader that is used for small-medium scale road construction projects. The forward traveling speed ranges from 8-38km/h, while the reverse traveling speed ranges from 5-23km/h, making it faster than the former model. This, therefore, indicates an increase in the performance index of the machine with an increase in the size. This grader has a tractive force of 77KN, a maximum grade ability of 20%, and a minimum turning radius of 7.3m.

3. The 17-ton road grader

This is a larger motor grader model that is suitable for medium-large scale road construction operations. It has dimensions of 9.1x2.6x3.7m, making it quite large. It features a standard operating weight of 16.5tons and a minimum turning radius of 7.3m using articulation. The forward-moving speed of between 5-38km/h and a reverse speed of the same range, making it relatively fast primarily due to its size and weight. It has a tractive force of 98KN, which is more than that of the previous and smaller grader machines.

4. The 26-ton large road grader

This is the largest motor grader in terms of the size as it has the dimensions of 10.5x3.1x3.5m and a standard operating weight of 26tons, which is considerably bigger than the 24-ton large road grader. The rated power input requirement is also quite high, standing at224kW to achieve a rotation speed of 2100r/m. The tractive force is 140KN, which is higher than that of all the other road grader models, and it features a maximum grade ability of 30%. The maximum turning radius is 8.0m, and the maximum blade lift height above the ground is 450mm. At face value, this is not only the biggest motor grader, but it is also the most convenient and the best for large-scale road construction projects.
